We welcome the readers of our new BE SMARTER News section. Central point of the network is developing innovative training tools to spread the EMAS easy-methodology. Our recently developed BE-SMARTER training package is a new and innovative learning approach consisting in face to face trainings, on the job implementation and a smart on line assistant : a "E-learning by doing platform" and personal tutoring for environmental consultants. More than 100 consultants in 5 European countries are currently testing this training package.
This news section is meant to inform consultants, public administrations, business support organisations and SMEs about the latest news in the field of environmental management systems and SMEs.

During the International conference on EMAS that took place on the 25th of November in Brussels, a session was specially dedicated to EMAS Easy applications and BE-SMARTER.

On 25 November 2010, the International Conference on EMAS: Towards a Resource Efficient Economy took place in the Paul-Henri Spaak building of the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was jointly organised by the European Commission, DG Environment, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Be-Smarter project.

DG Enterprise has completed a study which estimates the environmental impact of SMEs in Europe, analyses administrative burdens stemming from EU environmental legislation and environmental business opportunities for SMEs, with concrete examples from single enterprises in 13 European countries. EMAS Easy is part of the study.

The European Commission, DG ENV has published an article on BE-SMARTER in the last EMAS Newsletter on Resource Efficiency. Doing more with less - resource efficiency - means decoupling economic growth from the use of resources. The European Commission, Environment Directorate General, is pleased to announce the 2010 European EMAS Awards. The award ceremony will take place in Brussels on 25 November 2010.

The fourth EMAS Roundtable took place in Balatonszárszó, near Lake Balaton, Hungary on 10 June 2010. This year’s event was organised by the EMAS-registered Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency within its CHAMP Project. Almost all organisations from the national EMAS register took part in the event, along with several potential EMAS-registered organisations.

Since 2003, PPE Serviss Ltd has manufactured glue for labels (for glass and different kind of plastic containers) for food and drinks manufacturers from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany and other countries. The company, which produced over 700 tons of products in 2007, shows a growing interest in the quality of its products and develops glue formulas according to the clients' individual needs. The staff consists of 5 people: manager, laboratory assistant, technician and two auxiliary workers.
